[2012-07] 3rd International Workshop on Future Television

Making Television Integrated and Interactive

(FutureTV 2012)

http://www.linkedtv.eu/event/FutureTV2012/

Full day workshop at the 10th European Interactive TV conference

(EuroITV 2012), Berlin, Germany, on July 4th, 2012

About

Going beyond today’s second screen and social TV experience, linkedTV is a vision of how TV and the Web will, in the future, become seamlessly interwoven, independent of the content or device. Rather than switch between “TV” and the “Web” they will co-exist, content on screen being intuitively mashed-up together, and interaction by the user shifting between content and data from the different sources effortlessly.

The 3rd Future Television workshop aims at exploring the research and development necessary for moving from today’s Web-TV platforms to tomorrows linkedTV platform, including:

  • how TV and Web content can be mashed up on a single screen;
  • how interaction with interwoven TV and Web content can help users shift effortlessly from one to the other;
  • what (non-linear) stories can be told in an interweaving of TV and Web content;
  • what new social benefits, application functionalities and business models such linkedTV can provide;
  • gaps in existing specifications and standards in the TV and Web world, requirements on new specifications and standards, how to bridge the TV and Web standards worlds;
  • application of existing or creation of new technological approaches to TV and Web to make linkedTV a reality (media fragments, annotations, semantics, multimedia scene descriptions, etc.).

Submissions

High quality submissions are solicited from all academic, scientific and industrial participants interested in the future vision of linkedTV and in discussing how it can be brought about on a research, development and commercialization level. We invite all contributions which address any of the below topics, or other topics considered as important by the authors to the goals of the workshop:

  • Annotation of Web and TV content for interweaving of both
  • Models for describing the interweaving of TV and Web content in a single experience
  • Adaptation of original TV or Web content for integrated presentation in end TV and mobile devices
  • User interfaces to browse interwoven TV and Web content
  • Storytelling techniques applied to LinkedTV
  • Scenarios for interweaving TV and Web content
  • Requirements for linkedTV, extensions to existing standards and recommendations, proposals for new models and specifications
  • Business models for linkedTV, studies in market acceptance of TV and Web interweaving

We encourage various types of submission:

  • full papers (max 12 pages) for mature work which has been subject to evaluation and whose results have been made public / commercialised, or
  • short papers (max 6 pages), for significant work in progress, late breaking results or ideas / challenges for the domain, as well as
  • demo submissions (max 2 pages describing the planned demo), for software and platforms which may be able to support a part of the imaginable linkedTV ecosystem.

Accepted full papers will be presented at length during the workshop, while accepted short papers will be allocated a shorter speaking slot and/or a place in a dedicated poster & demo session (depending on time available). Accepted demos will be included in the dedicated poster & demo session in the workshop.

Submissions must be in PDF and must be submitted using easychair. Submissions must be formatted in the style of the Springer Publications format for Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).
